Moms:
1. Explain to your child what’s going to happen in a positive tone.
2. Visit the classroom briefly and help your child feel comfortable.
3. Give your child a quick, reassuring goodbye and leave, handing your child off to a teacher if necessary.
Teachers will:
1. Cheerfully and confidently seek to engage children in activities.
2. Treat an anxious child gently and with compassion, while expressing confidence in the child’s ability to participate.
3. Not leave a child to cry. You will be sent for if your child is upset and not able to be comforted or engaged in play.
If separation continues to be difficult . . .
Moms and teachers are encouraged to talk together further to decide how to make the process easier for the child (and Mom too!)**
If you wish to check on your child . . .
Our nursery is equipped with one-way mirrors that allow you to do this without any of the children seeing you. If you would like to check on a child in the 2-5 year old classroom, please ask one of our MOPPETS leaders (Melody or Maritza) to do this for you. If your child sees you, he/she may become upset.
